In 2022, five major retailers in Belgium committed to a collective goal to close the living wage gap within their banana supply chains by the end of 2027.
In 2023, the coalition carried out the first step in this commitment with a study to measure the living wage gaps in their supply chains. Following in the footsteps of the German, Dutch and British retailers, the Belgian retailers agreed to work according to IDH Living Wages Roadmap and used the IDH Salary Matrix to calculate the living wage gap for an impressive 92% of their banana volumes, covering 383 banana plantations across Colombia, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Peru, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, and Panama.
